Random events are events selected by chance that change the game state outside the player’s direct choice. In Genghis Khan, seasons and regions shape when disasters often occur; Genghis Khan II describes disasters and boons that occur at random1,2.

#Implementations

In Genghis Khan, cold waves occur often in northern countries in winter, storms occur often in southern countries in summer, and epidemics can strike any country at random in spring and fall1. The manual ties the first two hazards to seasons and regions, and describes epidemics as random within spring and fall1.

In Genghis Khan II, the manual lists epidemics, sandstorms, blizzards, typhoons, and droughts as random events that lower popular support and agricultural production2. A blizzard or drought halves the next harvest, and typhoons occur only in specified tropical and subtropical climates2. An abundant harvest doubles the regular harvest; its chance is equal across states except for states suffering an epidemic3.
