Notes: A community version history, not an official changelog (the page says so). Used for the phase dates and the release dates of the versions this brief asks about. The history sections cite Notch's blog and Mojang's changelogs; for a claim, prefer the primary post where one is quoted here.

The Minecraft Wiki's version history dates the Java Edition's phases: development from 10 May 2009, Classic from 17 May to 10 November 2009, Indev from 23 December 2009 to 23 February 2010, Infdev from 27 February to 30 June 2010, Alpha from 30 June to 3 December 2010, Beta from 20 December 2010 to 11 November 2011, and the official release on 18 November 2011 at MINECON 2011. The same page's Alpha section gives Alpha other ends, 29 June to 20 December 2010, and doesn't reconcile the two.	`leadleadleadAlpha`	Wiki

The full release of the Java Edition followed on 18 November 2011 on PC and Mac.	`Classic, version tableClassic, Private alphaJava Edition, full release`	Wiki
In Minecraft the player loads a furnace through its interface, fuel in the bottom slot and the items to smelt in the top one. Snapshot 13w02a, part of 1.5 (full release 13 March 2013), let hoppers work with furnaces, which the Minecraft Wiki says allows automatic smelting. The wiki also describes hoppers extracting smelted items.	`1.5, block and item additions table: development release, full release`	Wiki
