Credit: Team CoFH's own history page, captured 24 September 2026: King Lemming and Cynycal started modding in 2012, and Thermal Expansion began as a BuildCraft addon.
Notes: A later developer's first-person account of what Thermal Expansion took from BuildCraft: it "was a BuildCraft addon" and used "Minecraft Joules, BuildCraft's old power system" until its third iteration. This is the strongest non-Factorio legacy statement found.
