In Famicom Tsūshin's cross review, the first reviewer (8) was impressed that a system as complex as jobs and abilities goes down so smoothly with the general public, and called the linear but nicely worked-out scenario its greatest draw; players with weak tear ducts shouldn't play it in front of others. The second (9) found it easier to play than IV in the small details, but basically unchanged from IV, so the thrill of freshness was thin. The third (9) called the way the opening draws the player in excellent and wished other games would learn from staging that used the hardware to the fullest, and liked the job system. The fourth (8) said that where Dragon Quest V let the player overlap with the hero, Final Fantasy V watches its hero from outside, like a film.p. 40, Final Fantasy V column, first reviewer's boxp. 40, Final Fantasy V column, second reviewer's boxp. 40, Final Fantasy V column, third reviewer's boxp. 40, Final Fantasy V column, fourth reviewer's boxMagazine
