Credit: Wesley Yin-Poole's report on the 2019 announcement of the paid Steam edition, quoting Bay 12's FAQ on why they went premium and the terms with Kitfox.
Notes: Says Kitfox publishes the Steam edition, takes 20 per cent after Valve's 30, has no access to the source and no influence on design, and that Dwarf Fortress Classic stays free and updated. The 2022 release itself is dated by Polygon.
