Notes: Retrospective on Sonic 3's 20th anniversary. Credits the save system as a first for the series and Knuckles as its greatest contribution, and repeats reports that Michael Jackson left the project over the Mega Drive's sound.

VGC reports that Jackson isn't credited, that his musical director Brad Buxer has said Jackson worked on the soundtrack for four weeks in 1993, that Sega has never confirmed it, and that former Sega executives, Tom Kalinske among them, have said any part he had was without their knowledge. Digital Spy's 2014 retrospective says reports suggest he left over the Mega Drive's limits on music.	`trivia paragraph`	Web
Later reviews single out the saves and Knuckles. GameSpot's Frank Provo called the six save slots Sonic 3's most welcome new feature in 2007, and Digital Spy's Mark Langshaw wrote in 2014 that it was the series' first game with saves but that its greatest contribution was Knuckles.	`retrospective body`	Web
