Famitsu describes Hiromichi Tanaka as the game's designer and Koichi Ishii as the designer of the job characters, and Dengeki Online calls Tanaka the maker of the Famicom version. Tanaka said the DS remake added 3D graphics, rebalanced jobs, and new characterization for the four heroes, and Square Enix credits Akihiko Yoshida with designing the four main characters and their job outfits.
