Space Jump
An upgrade that lets a jump start again in midair when the press lands in a window of the fall.
On this page
The Space Jump turns a falling spin jump into a new jump. Metroid has none: its gear byte holds eight items, and none is a Space Jump1. In Metroid II a press restarts the jump only at 20 steps of the arc table’s fall2. Super Metroid tests the fall speed instead: a press jumps again while Samus falls at 2.5 px/frame or faster and below 53.
- NoneMetroid (1986). The gear byte has no Space Jump bit.1
- Window in the arcMetroid II: Return of Samus (1991). A new press restarts a spin jump during 20 entries of the arc's fall.2
- Window of fall speedSuper Metroid (1994). A new press jumps again while the fall is between 2.5 and 5 px/frame.3

spaceJumpTableentry is nonzero: entries 44 to 63, wherejumpArcTablefalls 1 to 3 px a frame. The restart sets the counter to$28, or$18with the Hi-Jump Boots, below$40, so a held A gives a new linear ascent.Codealex-west/M2RoSHow we know
